Profile

Chikayoshi Sumi received the B.E, M.E., and D.E. degrees from the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Sophia University, Tokyo, Japan, in 1991, 1993, and 1996, respectively. From 1996 to 1998, he was a research fellow of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science and a research associate at Sophia University. In 1997, he was with the Bioacoustics Research Laboratory at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign as a visiting scholar. He started to work at Sophia University as a lecturer, and he currently is an associate professor at the Department of Information and Communication Sciences. His research interests include medical ultrasound, elasticity imaging, non- invasive treatment, biological signal processing, and inverse problems etc. He is a senior member of the IEEE, and members of the Japan Society of Ultrasonics in Medicine, the Japan Society of Medical Electronics and Biological Engineering, the Institute of Electronics, Information and Communications Engineers of Japan, and the Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan. He currently is editorial boards of Journal of Reports in Medical Imaging, Journal of Medical Engineering, and International Journal of Biomedical Imaging.(Subject of research)

Measurement of electromagnetic parameter distribution from magnetic field measurements (MR, SQUID etc)

Thermal treatment of cancer utilizing HIFU(High Intensity Focus Ultrasound) and electromagnetic wave(Proposed theme of joint or funded research)

情報理工学科や電気電子工学科の担当科目を中心に、学生の教育に専念し、技術者・科学者・教育者の育成に取り組んでいる(電磁気測定、可視化情報学、生体医工学、基礎物理学、医用画像工学など)。講義中には、技術内容や現象に関して自分で考える時間を設け、また、演習やレポートの課題を課すことで技術者や科学者としてのセンスを磨く機会を設けると共に、学生の理解度を確認している。
 
 
研究室輪講やゼミ、卒業研究を実施する中で、技術者・科学者・教育者としてのセンスの向上を図っている。内容としては、一つの目的を達するための、理論構築、シミュレーション、実験(実験系や装置開発を含む)という一連の流れを経験できるテーマに取り組んで貰っている。また、常に、他研究グループの研究動向の確認をさせる様にしている。
