In a survey, which is intended as a pilot study, 48 German teachers in Japan
were asked about their attitudes and previous experiences regarding „gender-inclusive
language in teaching German as a foreign language“. The initial
results of the qualitative and quantitative analysis suggest that gender-inclusive
language tends to be perceived as an important and topical issue. The
majority of the interviewees advocate that dealing with gender-inclusive
language should become an integral part of teaching German as a foreign
language in Japan. At the same time, difficulties in implementation are
emerging, such as a lack of teaching materials.
